 REGISTERED DETROIT VOTERS CAN COMPLETE AN ABSENTEE BALLOT AT THREE LOCATIONS THROUGH NOVEMBER 5
 Voters registered in the city of Detroit can vote absentee for the upcoming general election Monday through Saturday at one of the three following locations. The last day to vote absentee is Monday, November 5, at 4 p.m.
 • Wayne County Community College, Northwest Campus, 8200 W. Outer Drive at Southfield Freeway, voting hours: 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
• Wayne County Community College, Eastern Campus, 5901 Conner, voting hours: 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
• Department of Elections, 2978 W. Grand Boulevard, voting hours: 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

  DETROIT DPW ADJUSTS DROP-OFF LOCATIONS HOURS BEGINNING NOV. 5  Beginning Monday, Nov. 5, the City of Detroit Department of Public Works (DPW) will switch to fall/winter hours of 8:30 a.m. – 4 p.m. at its four drop-off locations. A fifth location, J. Fons Transfer Station, is open weekdays from 8 a.m. – 4 p.m. Residents can use the drop-off locations to discard bulk items, yard waste, tires (limit of 4), and recyclable items. These hours are in effect from now through the end of March.

 Southfield Yard, 12255 Southfield Service Drive Monday through Saturday, 8:30 a.m. – 4 p.m.  
  • Davison Yard, 8221 W. Davison Tuesday through Saturday, 8:30 a.m. – 4 p.m.
  • State Fair Yard, 19715 John R Tuesday through Saturday, 8:30 a.m. – 4 p.m.  
  • 5840 Anthon (bet. Cavalry and Campbell) Tuesday through Saturday, 8:30 a.m. – 4 p.m.
  • J. Fons Transfer Station, 6451 E. McNichols Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. – 4 p.m.
 DETROIT MUNICIPAL PARKING DEPARTMENT INSTALLS ELECTRIC VEHICLE CHARGING STATIONS AT FOUR DOWNTOWN PARKING FACILITIES  Customers who pay to park at designated City of Detroit Municipal Parking (MPD) facilities now have the ability to charge their electric vehicle. MPD has installed eight electric vehicle-charging stations at four parking facilities in downtown Detroit. Electric vehicle owners need only pay the usual parking fees. The charging stations, provided by Coulomb Technologies Inc. (CTI), are located at the following parking facilities:
 
  • Ford Underground Garage Grand Circus Underground Garage
  • 30 East Jefferson 1600-01 Woodward Avenue
  • Millennium Garage Premier Underground Garage
  • 432 East Congress 1206-08 Woodward
  DETROIT PUBLIC WORKS DEPARTMENT COLLECTS YARD WASTE
The Detroit Department of Public Works will continue to collect yard waste placed in biodegradable paper bags or personal containers through early December (weather permitting).

However, due to the high volume of bags of yard waste, DPW crews may not collect yard waste on the specified day or week that bags are placed at curbside. Residents should leave their bags at the curb until collected and will not be ticketed.

Residents are reminded that yard waste placed in plastic bags will not be collected. Citizens should place properly contained yard waste at the curb on their weekly collection day.

CITY OF DETROIT ASSESSMENTS DIVISION TO CLOSE ON FRIDAYS FROM NOVEMBER 2 – DECEMBER 14The City of Detroit Assessments Division will be closed to the public on Fridays, beginning November 2 through December 14 as staff members prepare the 2013 assessment roll. During that period, residents may conduct business Monday through Thursday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

The Assessments Division is located in the Coleman A. Young Municipal Center, 2 Woodward Avenue - Suites 607, 804, 805, 824 and 828.

DETROIT HOMELAND SECURITY OFFICE USES NEW SERVICE TO SEND EMERGENCY INFORMATION TO CELL PHONES AND EMAIL

The City of Detroit Office of Homeland Security & Emergency Management is using the Nixle Community Information Service to create and instantly publish important and emergency messages directly to residents via cell phone text message, email, or online at www.nixle.com.

The service is available to subscribed residents. Messages may include community events, traffic incidents, and other relevant public safety and emergency information. The service is secure, reliable and easy to use. The messages can be sent specifically to residents registered within a ¼ mile radius. Subscribers can choose the way in which alerts are received.

Residents of Detroit and neighboring communities can begin receiving pertinent information via text message, email, and the Web by registering at www.nixle.com, or texting DETROIT to 888777.
