Finger Lakes Community College offers local residents age 17 and older three ways to prepare for the general equivalency diploma, or GED, exam. All are free of charge. More than 90 percent of all students who complete GED preparation at FLCC pass the state exam.Options are as follows:

• Traditional classes are offered days and evenings in Canandaigua, Newark and Geneva. Day classes are also offered in Lyons and Penn Yan, and evening classes in Sodus, Wolcott and Victor. • Online courses in which students move at their own pace and report to a teacher, including some in-person sessions to evaluate progress.
• A television course offered on FLTV public access Channel 12, WXXI Channel 21 in Rochester and WCNY Channel 24 in Syracuse. Students complete workbook assignments and report to a teacher, including some in-person session to evaluate progress.

Before beginning one of these programs, students must make an appointment to attend a three-hour orientation, which includes basic math and reading tests. Orientation sessions are offered in Canandaigua, Geneva, Lyons and Newark. To make an appointment, call (585) 785-1431 or 785-1544.
