Finger Lakes Community College will host a charity basketball tournament between Canandaigua and Victor high school athletes on Friday, Dec. 21.Sponsored by Commodore Plastics, a foam products company in East Bloomfield, the event will be called the first ever Commodore Cup. Organizers hope to make it an annual event. The girls team plays at 5:45 p.m. and the boys at 7:15 p.m. in the FLCC gym, 3325 Marvin Sands Drive, Canandaigua. Once on the main campus road, visitors should turn left on Laker Lane and follow the road up the hill behind the main building to the parking area nearest the gym. Handicap parking is available.Brad Bradden, president of Commodore Plastics, has children in Victor schools and his siblings have children in the Canandaigua district.“As a parent, I see the rivalry between the schools, so when I was asked about participating in the tournament, I liked the idea,” he said.Braddon worked with Frank Clark, the boys basketball coach in Victor; Mike Broderick, the boys basketball coach in Canandaigua; and Bob Lowden, the FLCC athletic director, to make the Commodore Cup a charity event to benefit the Victor-Farmington Food Cupboard and the Canandaigua Churches in Action food pantry.Entry is $5. T-shirts and raffle ticket sales will also raise funds for the food cupboards. FLCC athletes and coaches will help run the event. The Victor-Farmington Food Cupboard and the Canandaigua Churches in Action food pantry each serve about 400 households per month.
