FLCC receives $86,250 workforce grant

Finger Lakes Community College has received a $86,250 grant from the State University of New York to help local employers keep their workers’ skills up-to-date.Starting this month, FLCC’s Professional Development and Continuing Education Office will provide a variety of classes to more than 1,300 employees in the region.Some of the training consists of state-mandated safety courses. Other courses cover leadership, customer service and specialized skills.Employers that have contracted for training services from FLCC include hair products maker Zotos International in Geveva, BonaDent Dental Laboratories in Seneca Falls, manufacturer Han-Tek in Victor, and the governments of Ontario County and the town of Victor.The SUNY workforce grant program requires employers to contribute to a portion of the cost.“Keeping current workers’ skills up-to-date is important for them to remain competitive. We’re pleased to partner with forward-thinking employers on this project,” said Lynn Freid, manager of business development and training.
