FLCC to offer child development course in Canandaigua

Finger Lakes Community College will begin offering its child development associate course in Canandaigua in February.The child development associate (CDA) certification prepares people for work in preschools and is required for positions in daycares. Evening classes run Tuesdays, starting Feb. 5, from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. at the FLCC Child Care Center, on the main FLCC campus off Lakeshore Drive.The course is also offered at Wayne County Head Start, 28 Canal St., Lyons, Wednesdays, starting Feb. 6, from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m.“The program has run successfully in Wayne County for several years,” noted Lynn Freid, FLCC manager of business development and training. “We are expanding at the request of employers and prospective students, who have asked the college to bring the course to Ontario County.”Child development associate is a national certification program that also grants college credit, which can be applied to an associate degree. Topics include child growth and development, how to observe and record children’s behavior, and establishing relationships with families.To enroll, a student must be a high school graduate at least 18 years old. Tuition and fees total $2,600.
